What is SF6 gas?
SF6 (Sulphur hexafluoride) is one of the six greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol and Directive 2003/87/EC. Its global warming potential (GWP) is 25,200 times that of CO2, making it the most powerful greenhouse gas on earth with a lifetime in the atmosphere of about 3,200 years.
Equipment containing SF6 gas must undergo leak checks to limit leaks (refrigerants, fluorinated gases and others) with a high environmental impact.
SF6 is mainly used in medium and high voltage electrical equipment for its dielectric qualities but it is also present in some particle accelerators and electron microscopes.
The use of SF6 is highly regulated in Europe: for producers and users but especially for personnel who handle it with the obligation to prove a certificate valid 5 years and issued by an approved body (Article 8 of the decree).
WLE offers high-voltage gas management services to ensure efficient, controlled and regulatory use. We are committed to providing complete management solutions including storage, handling and emptying of stocks.
